For the Girls Who Wear Makeup at the Gym

You know the ones I’m talking about? The ones who wear their fake eyelashes or contour to do push-ups and use the hamstring machines. This post is for you.

I am not one of these girls, but I have something to say to you: keep doing exactly what you’re doing.

I had a conversation with someone who expressed a sense of animosity to these beauty queens that walk around the gym looking like a million dollars. I’ve seen them too but my opinions of these girls seems to be different. I applaud them.

I applaud the women who wake up 30 minutes before work, perfect their appearance, and confidently walk out the door with their heads held high. I applaud the women who come straight from that work to the gym and work just as hard squatting, running, and lifting as they did marketing, selling, and exerting all day.

And to those who judge them for their lighter weight lifting and their effortless-looking jog, I urge you to remember that they have put forth more effort than the person who chose to sit on the couch after work instead. They have done a lot more than the people who keep saying they’re going to get to the gym and never do.

I am not skilled in makeup artistry; I don’t have the patience, the time, or the desire. BUT I appreciate those that do. I have seen women who can completely transform their look with a few brushes and tools. And to those who choose to criticize a girl with a passion for makeup, calling her “unnatural” and “fake” – I have something to say to you too – why do you care? And I challenge you to really answer that question.

We are living in a time where it is easier to criticize than empower. It is easier to feed your jealousy and disdain than it is to choose to build somebody up. But greatness is not made by taking the easy path. And kindness does not blossom from judgement.

If you are one of those people who has rolled your eyes at someone who you think doesn’t look sweaty enough or looks “too pretty” to be at the gym, I have a challenge for you. Next time you see that person, tell them they’re doing a good job. Tell them you like their makeup or their new workout leggings or their hairstyle.

Think about something you would like someone to notice and notice that in someone else.

As always, thank you for reading, and try to spread some happiness today!
